Now that Summer is finally approaching; women know that being stylish is a lot easier without having to worry about all the layers and covering up of skin.
What better way to style any amazing outfit than with a pair of shoes that are anything if not a work of art? TaylorSays promises a few turning of heads, while providing comfort to the woman that would rather stand out than fit in with the crowd of black or grey shoe wearers.   Originally from southern California designer Taylor Reeve puts her artistic mind to work on every pair of uniquely individual style she creates.  She began painting on just about anything she crossed paths with, including her own clothing.  Her artistic inspiration is derived from street art, graffiti and even tattoos.
It a takes a woman with a strong attitude to wear these shoes, since they do promise to not only bring a huge amount of compliments, but also draw a few critical glances.  Don’t worry about the sky high heels (some as high as 5 inches with the platform).  These are probably my most comfortable pair of heels.  The cushioning inside helps me navigate the streets of New York with ease.  TaylorSays shoes can be paired with just about any outfit.  I’m currently wearing them to work with a red top and black pair of black pants along with my “Sharkie” heels.

TaylorSays shoes range in pricing from $120.00 to $270.00.  You can also purchase from her website – taylorsays.com.  Hope you enjoy your pair as much as I do mine.

As a woman we are genetically engineered to understand that with style, comfort must be sacrificed.  Even more so during the dreary Winter months.  Layering is not always easy, especially for the female always on the run.  That’s why when we are given an opportunity to mix style and comfort; we are usually all ears.

6th Annual Harlem Fashion Row Headlines at the Apollo Theatre

Seven soulful African-American designers showcased their respective collections at Harlem’s Fashion Row (HFR) presentation, “The Reawakening.” Four hopefuls will continue on to show full Spring 2014 collections at HFR’s September fashion show.

Taking this year’s show to the Apollo was the next big step, as HFR’s CEO & Founder Brandice Henderson beamed during her welcome to attendees at the famed theatre. A Memphis native, she started this movement in 2007 and has brought her fashion background into the mix, creating an outlet for designers of color to join in the ranks of New York’s fashion world. Soulful spirits – past and present – filled not only the stage but emanated into the packed hall, inspiring a new generation of fit and form.

It was evident that each designer had a story to tell – from balancing work and play in a woman’s world, or looking to the future, or staying true to spiritual and cultural influences.

Kimberly Goldson, a Brooklyn native, received much applause for her Michelle Obama-inspired collection. Goldson, Season 9 Project Runway finalist, showed a ten-look collection at last year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Her “from desk to dinner” designs have landed her a Zappos.com launch as one of the first brands in their emerging designers program. Her color combination of purple-pink-gold shimmered around the Apollo stage.

Henderson refers to HFR as a “movement” because it has a “purpose” and that is “to prompt you to do something…something that will make a difference for each one of these designers.” And while they hail from different cities and countries like New York, Houston, and London, several designers were either born and raised or lived abroad in Europe, Africa and Zimbabwe. But their common thread is that they are designers of color. And HFR’s movement offers them a unique platform for their stories to be heard and ultimately, to be seen.

To learn more about the designers – Chantell Walters, Deirdre Jefferies for Epsion, Kimberly Goldson, Evelyn Lambert, Shauntelé, Sandro Romans, and Kahindo Mateene for Modahnik, follow The Huffington Post Black Voices web series.

This year’s judges included an impressive line-up, including: Supermodel and philanthropist Tyson Beckford; Black Girls Coalition co-founder Bethann Hardison; Bullett Magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Idil Tabanca; fashion photographer Tatijana Shoan; and multicultural merchandising  creative advisor Shawn Outler.

The final four designers will be voted on by both fans and the judges. The winners will be announced via HFR social media outlets.
